Also, it probably won't work to just scatter them on random patches of ground. Prepare the soil as you would for any vegetable or annual planting, then press the seeds in lightly. They germinate like mad things!spurgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02576503805188297240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4079712767252003197.post-22932521016882829582012-03-16T21:28:42.621-05:002012-03-16T21:28:42.621-05:00I keep broadcasting seeds around in hopes that I g...I keep broadcasting seeds around in hopes that I get some of these started. Nothing yet, but I figure one of these days one of the varieties is going to take, and at $1.25 a year and the 2 minutes to get them on the ground, its worth the try!Jesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01524574998937986323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4079712767252003197.post-1786313083477794222012-02-24T09:17:35.596-06:002012-02-24T09:17:35.596-06:00Poppies are so beautiful! I tried planting a bunch from seed last year - unfortunately we had a terribly hot blast of 90 degree weather in spring that decimated all the seedlings.Indiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08120631846270350947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4079712767252003197.post-7589437652462111972012-02-21T16:57:51.453-06:002012-02-21T16:57:51.453-06:00You've reminded me that twenty years ago, when...You've reminded me that twenty years ago, when my gardens were new, they used to be full of orange Californian poppies, and how beautiful they were. Eventually I had to get rid of them because they became such a weed. But I do love them and might try a few in just one spot next Spring. I did try the cream ones and as you say, they aren't as vigorous, although quite beautiful. But when they seeded, I got orange ones again, so out they came too.Lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11627975259420138572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4079712767252003197.post-78182333759694125282012-02-21T11:04:19.513-06:002012-02-21T11:04:19.513-06:00Rebecca, I can pop some in the post to you if you ...Rebecca, I can pop some in the post to you if you let me have an address. I actually love the screaming bright color - music to my eyes in high summer. But in general my color scheme tends toward the soft pinks and blues, so it's hard to find a spot to put them that is not painful!spurgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02576503805188297240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4079712767252003197.post-38494921365615935062012-02-21T09:17:25.175-06:002012-02-21T09:17:25.175-06:00Yes, the Venus really does look a bit like a space...Yes, the Venus really does look a bit like a space creature.
